We're all in this toguether - HSM

Today (19th) I went with my family to wacth High School musical 3 which is a play for children. The play was entertaining, however...towards the end, the guys came in with their togas on, wich some candles, and they were graduating! And I started thinking that is going to be me soon. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, the song we're all in this toguether was played in a very sad and melancholic way. NOSTALGIA! urrrg..even some tears scaped from my eyes. ... I cryed(not like maria magdalena, pero sus lagrimitas calleron pe). :( ....(eso es para qeu vean cuanto los aprecio y los quiero un culo y que si algo les pasa, muero y que cuando sea VI morire) ...and then I realized..was the play so good that it made me cry. NO. It wasn't is just the song, the situation and my head. je je.

So let's analize this play. As I entered the theatre I heard music. So I took out my mental copybook: MUSIC, entertains children before starting the play. Everyone was singing so the 15 minutes i took for the play to start was not so boring. Becuase it was a play focused for children, it was full of music, flashy lights, colorful props, coloful dresses, movements, jumping screaming ! but ..acting? NADA QUE VER. The worst thing was that, they didn't know at allthe song's lyrics and so therfore it totally loooked fake, so if we decide to sing next year! we have to be careful! However, my sister was so into the play, she even SHUSHED me when i laughed. SO the main perpous of the play, was accomplished, entertain the kids.

Things I could rescue form this play:
1) music: dancing and singing is a MUST in a childrens play.
2) Lights!: lights should be there when ever action happens. But colorful lights! this makes the audience dizzy and sort of captures attention.
3)simple words, as simple as that.
4) There was one character which as a contrats with the others was completely dedicated to parents. He made jokes wih a peruvian style (que piña, uuuy que roche, que rico su papita rellena) or jokes which only the parents get, this is used to cheer up the parents, because obviously they were getting bored.
5) 4th wall is not respected, you really can interact with the audience, make them respond to your proposition, not always, becuase it will turn into a fiesta infantil, but now and then is ok. And I noticed they could even, jump out of stage! however, never touch the audience.
6) levels and colors, they used colorful boxes as props and they used very good the levels, specially like standing up in very large cubes or sitting on the floor.
Nothing more to analize.

The acting for this play was very vague, just 10 lines max between song and song. This is extremely entertaining for children however, acting was mediocre. How is a balance between dialogue, music, dancing and entertaining children is going to be accomplished next year!?

***** Random Platypus *****
Hello Hello!, todays random platypus is here to tell you that I have 1000000000 ant bites through out my entire body :( and it itches like hell! I think I still have some ants walking here and there. However I don't care.. all the jokes from yesterday are worth it.

So, the rehearsal of this Saturday was yet another one which neither me or Star had a thing to do, and therefor what is important is to tell you about what we did on the Saturday Afternoon. The whole Drama Club came to my place at around 6.30 and we went to the "cuarto festival ucsur de teatro internacional" in the u. of San Marcos, we arrived like 3 hours early. When we finally entered to the theatre, I was excited. The play we went to watch was called Dominicanish, 60'-Ayombe, R.D.

****WARNING SPANGLISH IS GOING TO BE USED****** (when i'm criticando, I can't WRITE the exact word I'm looking for)
Good Aspects of the play
1) Lighting: the lighting on this play was great. It started with an orange sunsetish background with a siluette of the actriz in contraluz. That was very effective because all the soft, femenine movements made by her were sort of enhanced. Then there were other 10 types of light, the main light wich iluminaba todo el escenario, the square one in the middle, the two round ones behind and enfron of the square one, the spotlight, the one at the left and so on. Most of the lights were very strong and without color, that is YELLOW LIGHT, and because it came from the top, the face of the actress was sort of hidden, however that was cool. That was catchy for the audience. Therefore, variety of lights are very effective for a play.
2) Oppositions and Column: SHE WAS THE QUEEN OF OPPOSITIONS, and the way she acomplished that was by using the Indu Dance, just because the nature in this danec is oppositions it make it easier for her. However, what on earth that the oppositions had to do with the actual play!? Then she also used her column well, but the best part was when she stayed on a MatriX sort of possition, she stayed arched back for like 1 minute which is very very very veyr vye very very veyr very very very vye (jejejejejje) hard. She must be very strong in order to be able to do that.
Tone of Voice: She spoke with a very good tone of voice, I could hear her always, however, sometimes I couldn't understand her. She also played with the pitchs of ther voice, high pitch, low pitch, normal pitch. The accent she used was good also, she used Boricuan accent, US accent, and neutral accent. Gives variety to the Play.
Jokes: the use of jokes capture the atencion of the audience at the beginning, however it was waaaaaaaaaaay to exploted. A joke now and then is ok, but through out the play THE SAME JOKE!? come on! please.

BAD THINGS...prepare..this is along one...
1) First thing i Hate the most about this play, VIDEO, come on! was it really really a need?! In my opinion the video was there just to confuse the audience, you don't have 4 eyes to watch the video while watching the actriz, so ....I was distracted by the video, whcih was about some MOCHILAS DE VIAJE...w.t.f?
2) Theme: I understand the main proposito of this play, to let the audience know about How the Dominicans had to learn english in order to be accepted by the society. However! it was not ...really..clear. So, on stage there was this woman "dancing" while saying some random words about english and her teachers...and nothing else. more than 20 minutes watching her do the same thing. The play didn't move, it just suggested an idea...which was repeated on and on and on for a very long time. If the idea was to portray something about acceptance of society, then why not act that! The play had no plot and therefor, no climax and no ending, which is one of the common way to make a play flow. Another character would be also useful, in order to portray the idea of society, maybe she was bitten when child because she didn't speak englihs or something and then what happened next, when she arrived to society, and so on. That would be a more interesting proposition. I think this was more of a performance, were she suggested something and thats it. And some pruevas de qeu no sirbe?..well..in the middle of the play, people just stood up and went home. BORING.....
3)Sometimes I couldn't understand a word she was saying.
4) she kept repeating the same thing over adn over again" BOY, GIRL SHE LOVES YOU, SHE DOES, DOESN't" which was effective at the first time, and the second time an "OH WELL" but the third one was a PLEASE STOP!.

What I learned form Dominicanish?
PLAYS NEED TO MOVE ON FROM ONE IDEA, IF IT STAYS WITH THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THE PLAY DIES, this is; you suggest something, develop it, if you made yourself clear, NEXT IDEA, and so on.. )LIGHTS are very important for a play, and oppositions are on of the best alternatives in order to catch the attention of the audience. I think it would be interesting if we open the play of the superheroes with the siluette thing and the backround of a light blue color! that would be awesome! Are we going to be able to MOVE ON adn entertain the audience in the play for next year!?

Starstruck - Flo-rida & Lady Gaga

Today, I finally found the perfect Astolfo! I think....everybody likes it.

Astolfo
Stance: Back straight, shoulders down, chin up (distance (pinky and neck)), legs fairly toguether, arms behind and right hand holds the left DOLL (muñeca...aaah! se me fue la palabra)...wrist! (ahi ta) and i'm gonna be seriuos. I think a BIG SMILE will ruin the "royal" thing going on.
Voice: After playing with my voice for a whole day I think, the voice I got at the end was perfect. I'll give it a try next time! My voice is going to be very very very deep, I think the deepest from all the play! :P (I'm unique..) this also highlights the idea of MACHO and MAN in the play. I impose character with my voice...however i noticed, it is sort of agressive...instead of ..flirting..when I speak to Star. Will see, what happens, maybe is just the way i say it.
Look: pelo marron! I want to have brown hair! if the Clarines / trombones can dye their hair white! i want my hair to be ..brown. ...for a change... cuase BLONDE is not good, so either black or brown. ....and uhm (claudia and sandrita) can my outfit be BLUE?! :D cause i'm the blue prince..
Lines: still there are more lines to memorize! I'm learning my lines, slowly but I am! now...I have to learn more lines for saturday!

Scenery:
These are thoughts we are thinking of, for the play! and we don't need to forget for next tuesday ..right?
1) second "nicho" for the play is going to be YES or YES, we decided it is a must. However, we need to decide wheter make it a Balcony or another nicho.
2) First Nicho: height: 2 m 30 cm
3) how much further will we expand the theater!?

Rehearsal!
Todays rehearsal was a scene I wasn't participating and i was doing anything, so I decided to watch how the scene developed, and i started suggesting small details that the DT liked, so I think my director carrier is about to begin! I learned a lot just from watching Rodrigo act, from the clarines not really becuase they are not the same type of character as me, neither Segismundo, but.. atleast at some point, he is supposed to be. I learned that after learning lines, you have to find the ACTIONS that you'll have to do while speaking. Also I learned the movement in stage, how rodrigo owned the stage, is a thing i really don't think i do naturally, he moved from one side to the other....while I have to wait for DT to tell me (mental note: WORK ON THAT!) TONE! rodrigo never lost the tone, I could always undestand what he was saying! plus....the intention too! AND THE FACE EXPRETIONS! ..so I think, I need to start watching and making sure that i learn what Rodrigo has to teach me. (thank you very much for that rodrigo!!)

Next week we are going to watch some plays! I hope that I learn learn as much or even more as from today. So, all this comes back to: does acting is tought?! or ...what..cause i think, that Rodrigo did teach me how to act, a little bit, even though is not intentionally! however, the things that rodrigo does, i need to give them my personal touch, and hopefully that would teach others too! so,back to my question: up to what extend you learn how to act?!

La Bilirrubina - J.L. Guerra

*****RANDOM PLATYPUS IN LOVE *******

Today, the random platypus fell in love! .....is just that the she-platypus?(ok ..she) looked and him! and talked to him! although it was sort of a "3 word sentence" she even said his name!!!!! and the poor platypus went and save day. he felt nervous kinda...you know...RANDOM.

*****RANDOM PLATYPUS IN LOVE******

Ok so, first things first, THE MASSACRE or the drama exam. one word to describe it, USURA. man! I thought it was easy (the first part)...however the "parts" kept on coming! non stop ! for like 2 periods, 1000 questions..urg! i think that was the worst exam i ever did in my life! and i didn't actually finish it....... BUT!!! en mi defensa!! it was my first drama exam, I didn't know what to expect (e.g the last 4 questioNs!?) and I know its not a good excuse, however, for the next examn I promise I'll do my best ...since i know how massive and big the exams are, and I'll study more, becuase i really didn't make not even close to my best.

later that horrible day, came the rehearsal, since i was sick! i didn't study my lines ..... so "PESIMO AH! came, I know I deserve it. If I don't know my lines, how in the world would I ever expect help from my director, if I don't know what on earth i'm doing. However, I managed to pull it up together!! and as I said before Astolfo is the complete opposite from me! His way of breathing, tone of voice, his stand? (parada..that is)..his movements, his walking everything is the opposite of me! And the confusion came in when I was said to do the part of CLOTALDO, I came in complete sync with the character, and the thigns that he did, i did them naturally. And so I started doubting if I should perform as Astolfo or as Clotaldo. And then, I realized that, Astolfo is a more demanding character for me, and that STUPID PIECE OF PAPER (sin ofender amixer C.d.B) IS NOT GONNA BEAT ME! I'm gonna perform and do my very best in order to bring Astolfo alife. I'm gonna try and bring the emotion i felt when acting as clotaldo, and change it to Astolfo!.

Stuggles wit
h astolfo! (el otro dia vi la bella durmiente, El principe Felipe me parecio una inspiracion, yo creo que es entre GASTON y PRINCIPE FELIPE)
1) LINES! urrg! i can't memorize them ..I suck :P
2)VOICE
, my voice is toooooooo high piched for him, I need to change it! I've being playing with that, on my way home in my micrito, the guy next to me looked at me wierd, but screw him. However, i can't find for the right one yet! so if you see me talking raro at school, now you know why
3)walking! I can't get into my brain that astolfo walks with a calm pace! he is form the royalty and everything moves around him, he doesn't move around anyone (well..with exeptions).
4) FACE EXPRETIONS! I said "P**** M****" once...but our DT didn't like it. ..however, I think I managed to overcome that mistake, to tell info to the audience with my face.
5)what I'm saying, I need help on that! really, (however, I need to learn my lines first) sometimes I'm lost in the play, I say the the text, just..because!...so, plaese dt! help.

Scenery! (o como michi se escriba)
Problems:
1) Size: the stage is tooo small. I think we found the actual messurements for our stage (the masking tape thing) but we are ...to squizzed.
2) Mountains: becuase the palace is more important, the mountains are gona look like spaguetti, I'm sorry for he mountains.

THoughts:
1) Two stages!?!: we definetly need to use two levels for the play, ...I hope it looks okay, this will help in the sence of space.
2) SPINNIGN TOWER! best idea ever!!! la torre va a girar chicos! :P...flavio perdiste, tu empujas

3)...ehm should we ...enlarge the stage!? and until what point!?..we'll see

OK so! that's all for today, In concluision, today SUCKED HORSE BALLS....(but the she-platypus) ...I'm gonna get bald, I love IB drama, price to pay: HAIR. ....but I'm totaly for it :P ...I always can use wigs, right? ...Question for today!: who will win the epic battle: DIEGO LOBATON or ASTOLFO, EL DUQUE DE MOSCOVIA? COLORS FOR THE SCENERY!!! (I just remember :p) Will the scenery be the most apropiate for the play itself!? how would it relate to the props and the costumes!?!?! 20 more rehearsal peeps! LET's GO!
